Emmy Nomination for SFW Editor

We were very excited to recently learn that a documentary our editor Kyle Kegley cut has been nominated for an Emmy! The film was produced by Team Juicebox as part of International Documentary Filmmaker Challenge where 122 teams from 17 different countries had five days to produce a film. Ars Magna, which follows Corey Calhoon an obsessive anagramist, went on to take first prize in the Hot Docs Film Festival in Toronto and was later broadcasted nationally on PBS. It was even written about on the USA Today blog:

I just watched the most delightful little documentary, and I think it gave my brain a shot of energy, too: Ars Magna follows Cory Calhoun, a man obsessed with anagrams. He’s best known for taking the first three lines of Hamlet’s “To Be or Not to Be” soliloquy and rearranging the letters to form “the world’s greatest anagram.” (That sounds like an exaggeration, but when you hear it, you’ll be amazed!)

You can watch the film on the PBS website here.

The winners will be announced September 21st. So stay tuned. You view the full list of nominees here.

PSE Documentary Premiere!

Here are some photos from the premiere of The Power of Snoqualmie Falls in North Bend!  The crew had a great time seeing this film on the big screen and reconnecting with everyone who contributed to this video.

Since the screening the documentary was mentioned in the Summer Issue of the PSE newsletter Snoqualmie Falls Update.  The newsletter is dedicated to on going projects at the falls, our film is one of the historic and cultural enhancements of the hydroelectric plant. In addition our film is being used as part of PSE’s new hire orientation and will be accessible to the public at local libraries around the Puget Sound region.

JFS Video Recognized

Recently we were happily surprised to find the video we did for Jewish Family Service this year was chosen to be shown at the Lights.Camera.Help film festival!  “Family Portraits” is one of 19 films chosen out of 140 entries to be shown at the festival July 31 and August 1 in Austin, TX.  Out of the final 19, one will take home all the proceeds from the event.  Every year we are honored to work with the folks at Jewish Family Service, the recognition of their organization through this video is well deserved.

The Power of Snoqualmie Falls UPDATE

In March, we blogged about the documentary we created for Puget Sound Energy on the history of the Snoqualmie Falls hydro-electric plant.  PSE is sponsoring the world premiere at the North Bend Theatre on July 16 for a private audience. Currently we are working with KCTS to broadcast this film regionally sometime in the fall. Check back for updates!

Additionally, our website is the featured project on the-medium.net.  Josh and Lisa Tuininga at The Medium are talented web-artists who do a variety of design work.  We thoroughly enjoyed working with them on our website and love the finished product.

The film was well-received and organizers commented that it had the largest audience of the entire festival! Eight years after it was produced this little documentary has now been seen in nine film festivals across the country. Thank you to everyone for their support of this film.

Sephardic Film to Show in Spokane

We’re proud to announce that on April 26, THE SEPHARDIC JEWS AND THE PIKE PLACE MARKET will be shown on the closing night of the Spokane Jewish Film Festival.  We like to call this documentary, “The Little Film that Could.”  Since it’s premiere in 2001, it has been showcased in 9 film festivals throughout the country!

Filled with rare archival photographs and colorful interviews with family members of market merchants, this 30-minute documentary captures a rich slice of Seattle’s history.

My Left Hand at SJFF

More news!  A film we edited a couple years back will be shown at the Seattle Jewish Film Festival on May 3rd at 5pm.  This is the story of Seattle-native Joshua Isaac who has been battling cancer since 1998.  He began filming and documenting his story when he was diagnosed in 2004 with a rare cancer in his left hand.  Josh’s courage to film his treatments, disappointments, fears and triumphs, gives his audience the harsh realities of how difficult a battle with cancer can be.  For me, the word “chemo” will never again be some nebulous term that someone else goes through. Working with Josh was inspiring and his talent as a filmmaker is evident in the awards his film has received.
